On November 26, 2017, there will be a big party at Café Luso. Together with the fado community and the Portuguese, we will celebrate the 90 years of Café Luso, the 80 years of Adega Machado and the 6th anniversary of the elevation of Fado to Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

The Cultural Center of Belém proposed to the fadista Ricardo Ribeiro to sing and surprise with a tribute to José Afonso, a poet and singer who knew, like few, to revitalize the popular tradition and to work it with invention and modernity.

José Afonso, as a musician, explored with equal modernity the chords of our songbook and took them to all People.

His fados spoke and sang the nostalgia of a forgotten Portugal.

The irreducible defender of traditional fado passed away one day ago at the age of 80. He became famous with popular themes like Fado Alcochete and Fado Pintéus.

He was the owner of one of the main fado houses in Alfama, “Taverna do Embuçado”.

He recovered and opened the Palace of Pintéus, in Loures, where he held several Fado events.

Avid to work in the studio, and even the commercialization of Fado, always preferred to sing live, especially in a circle of friends and lovers of Fado.
